Great Weekend!

First of all, I'm really excited for no apparent reason. I'm coming down with a cold, too, but strangely I'm really happy! I got a ton of work done this weekend but a lot more to do, so I'll try to make this post short.

I heard back from a few of my beta readers and got a lot of good feedback. I knew having beta readers would help me a lot but I guess I wasn't aware of how much it would help. I learned a lot.

For example:

  • The difference between 'farther' and 'further'. ('Farther' is used as in physical distance and 'further' is for metaphorical distance)
  • That you're not supposed to use a comma before the word 'but' (yep, I did that about a thousand times)
  • That I italicize words way too many words
  •  I have too many "she says" or "he says" after someone speaks. It turns out, if there are only two people in the conversation, you hardly need those at all!
  • There's still a ton of stuff about writing that I don't know.
So yeah, my issues are mostly grammatical and then there were some problems with the setting. But I think I finally fixed that... we'll see.

How was you're weekend?

Crit partners are the best. I had a fantastic weekend. Net some great authors and got a little work done yesterday.

Good crit partners are a precious commodity. And as for weekends, pretty good, got a lot of work done (though none on the stories :-( but I'll get there soon).

Getting helpful feedback is a plus when you have an open mind to receive it...something I learned a while back when I truly got serious about writing...something I'll need for this WiP because goodness knows beta readers and CPs will have a lot to give me. Not sure if I should cringe about that or not.

This weekend was a little slow. I was smart enough not to write while on pain meds, but I did make a little progress.

Wishing you well as you work on improving your great story.

Glad to hear everything is going so well! Whenever I read about a positive crit partner experience like yours, it makes me even more eager to get to that stage.

Also, the English teacher in me has to point out that technically you SHOULD use a comma before the word 'but' IF what follows it could stand alone as a sentence. Otherwise, delete the comma like you said.

Best of luck with your revisions!
