C is for Calm(?)
Sunlight.
It scatters across the ground like broken pieces of glass. Spilling
liquid gold onto the sand and overflowing into the waves.
The sky bleeds sunlight.
Long wanted sunlight gushes through the dark grey clouds. The
storm will return. There’s no avoiding it.
Thunder sounds in the distance.
But for now, there’s still the sun.

Okay, now before you go asking what that parenthesized question mark is about, let me explain. This is a little embarrassing, but I can't write a completely calm scene.
I mean, as a writer, we have to be putting tension into every scene to make it interesting! So, when I decided to write a 'calm' scene... well... you can see why it didn't really turn out. So, hopefully you'll forgive me.
Anyway, here's a song by Hans Zimmer & Lisa Gerrard from the movie Gladiator that's nice and calm:

LOL!! I enjoyed your piece and I couldn't help giggling at your explanation. You made a good point about the conflict we're so accustomed to fusing into our work.
But in the end, you still had the sun :-)

Calm really can be hard to write because books have to have action, excitement and building drama! Great job!
Haha. I'm all about tension too, because that's one of the things I had to add to my last MS so now I'm all about making sure its there with the current one I'm writing :)
The calm before the storm, like ying and yang. The contrast brings out the intensity of the storm even stronger. Loved the explanation about the (?).
